How To Become An Inspirational Leader

The secret of becoming an inspirational leader is to develop the art of creating environments where people are engaged and energised. Then all you have to do is win them over so that they like and respect you.

Far too many managers try to lead by telling people what to do. Nobody likes to be told what to do all the time. It is boring and it stultifies the imagination.

People like you and trust you when you give them the freedom to do what they want to do. When they know that you trust them the quality of their work will improve immensely. They will start to come to you with ideas and suggestions. That is great because it saves you from having to expend your energy on trying to think, “what next?”

You can only inspire people if they will open up and allow you to inspire them. But this is not as difficult as many people make out. People want to be inspired. They want their day to be full of joy and fulfilment so that the time passes quickly and they can go home to their families, hobbies and other activities that they enjoy, which make their lives worthwhile.

Great work environments are created when blame and guilt are eliminated. When people are valued and encouraged. When dialogue, ideas and thinking are encouraged. When people are trusted and treated with respect – when they know that their opinions matter.

People are inspired when they know that you are clear about where the team is headed. When their is consistency about direction and strategy.

Above all else your team will be inspired by your behaviour. When you are up-beat, positive and enthusiastic about your work your team will catch your mood and behave in a similar way.
