Determination is the Glue of Success

I once heard determination described as “stick-at-it-ness”. What the speaker meant was that determined people glue themselves to a result and do not veer away from their chosen route until they achieve what they are aiming to achieve.

I really like the idea of “stick-at-it-ness” because it implies that bulldog spirit that will not give up until it has got what it wants.

If you cast your mind back to all the times when you have failed you will very often find that you gave up well before you needed to, that you managed to talk yourself out of continuing along the path that you had selected to reach your goal. In fact you simply did not stick to the task of getting to your goal.

Determination is a much underrated approach to achieving success. Sometimes we have to grit our teeth and simply carry on when all around us are giving up. It is that ”stick-at-it-ness” that is very often the difference between success and failure.

Look at the ant in the picture carrying a leaf larger than itself, determined to get the leaf to its destination – that is determination. If an ant can do it surely you can.

Today – be determined in everything you do.
