Her Self-Confidence Just Grew Naturally
Sandra had always had a problem with self-confidence. She couldn’t remember a time when she didn’t doubt herself. This was a shame because she was a very able junior executive who was being held back by her lack of faith in herself.
Then one day she was moved to a new team, under a new manager. Sandra was dreading her first meeting with her new boss. Her experiences of trying to settle into new teams had never been happy.
To her surprise the meeting started with her new manager saying: “I’ve heard a lot of good things about you Sandra, so I’m looking forward to working with you.” The words made Sandra blush with delight. She was unused to the experience of being complemented on her work.
Over the coming weeks and months her boss never missed an opportunity to praise Sandra’s successes. As a result she grew in confidence and was able to take on more and more work which she both enjoyed and completed successfully.
A little praise goes a long way to building people’s self-confidence.
