It is negative thoughts that cause most people to underachieve. These can best be described as “muttering” to yourself. “Mutterings” go around and around inside your head for anything from a few minutes to many hours.
There are 4 main problems with “muttering” to yourself:
1. It fills your mind and prevents you from doing anything constructive.
2. It keeps you in a “bad” place.
3. It creates a very strong “bad memory” which will come up again and again in the future when a similar situation arises to the one that started you “muttering” in the first place.
4. It keeps negative feelings alive and influencing you in an unhelpful way.
When you’re “muttering” to yourself it is difficult to call a halt. To say, “enough, I need to get on with other thoughts.”
The problem is that the “muttering” is related to one or more powerful feelings that are enjoying their time in the limelight.
