How to Ensure Your Success as a Leader
The short answer is that you have to learn to behave like a leader. And then, once you have learned what to do, you have to go on and on doing it, in exactly the same way until good leadership behaviour becomes second nature to you.
Did you get that? You have to practice doing the good actions that outstanding leaders habitually do.
The problem with most team heads is that they become so caught up in the day-to-day hurly-burly of getting things done that they forget to make time to practice being good leaders. But, can you imagine someone training for the 2012 Olympics forgetting to go training? Can you imagine an actor forgetting to spend time learning his/her lines? Can you imagine a top chef not spending time in their kitchen slaving over a hot stove?
The fact is that if you want it you’ve got to work for it. You have to learn and practice being a leader every day, and as often as you can during the day.
