How to Succeed in a Recession

by David Ferrers

What do all the people you know talk about most at the moment?

I bet it’s the state of the economy, the banking system and the recession.

People are worried, their savings are at risk, their loans may get called in at any moment, they may lose their jobs.

An undercurrent of anxiety pervades society.

What can you do about it? How can you succeed in this climate?

First, don’t get sucked in to the general atmosphere of doom and gloom. I know it’s easy to sympathise with others and join in the negative conversations, but don’t. Anxiety is contagious, but you do not have to catch it.

Tremendous Opportunities

Recessions offer tremendous opportunities to those who use “Inspired Thinking” to think outside the box. More people became millionaires in the USA during the recession of 1991/2 than at any other time in the country’s history. There are abundant opportunities in every market sector for those who think right.

Your second task is to not allow yourself to get scared. Think this way: what’s the worst thing that can happen to you? Will you die of the recession? I don’t think so. This means that you’re not unsafe. Your body and soul are likely to remain intact.

OK, so you may lose a few quid. So what, you could do that playing bingo or at a casino or at the race track. It won’t be the end of the world.

Provided you manage your emotions and don’t allow your internal conversations to get out of hand you will be safe.

Third you should get your thinking hat on and ask yourself: “what opportunities are there in this situation for a bright person like me?”

Don’t Try to be a Hero

The biggest single mistake I find people making is trying to do everything on their own.

You only have one head and one pair of hands. This is a time for cool heads and creative thinking. Two or more people working together stand a MUCH better chance of achieving good results.

Just look at how well people have done once they enlisted a little help from a coach – see Success Stories.

Then imagine how much more successful you could be if you joined a Mastermind Group and got six other minds working on the challenges you face.

My book How to Succeed in a Recession, Mastermind Groups, speeches and Success Coaching all show you how to use “Inspired Thinking” how to rise to a MUCH higher level of performance in your career, business, finances and relationships especially when times are tough.
