Manager Stress Can be the Making of the Manager

Client: What do you mean by Manager Stress? How is this any different from ordinary Stress?

Coach: All stress is the result of force being applied to a system. In the case of Manager Stress the force comes from the pressure of work and/or from pressure being applied by the people with whom you work.

So Manager Stress is to do with your ability to cope with the volume or work which you have to manage and the people you have to manage, both those above and below you in the corporate heirarchy.

manager-stressClient: How would I know when I am suffering from Manager Stress?

    Coach: You will feel:

    1. uneasy or anxious about meeting deadlines,
    2. that you are not fully in control of your work load,
    3. you may dread going to work,
    4. you may find it difficult to make decisions,
    5. communication may become a chore you try to avoid,
    6. you may find it difficult to start any task,
    7. your desk may be a mess, no task list, no priorities,
    8. your relationship with your boss may feel uncomfortable,
    9. whenever you think about work and all you have to do you may feel that it is impossible to ever get control of all you have to do.

Client: What should I do if I suffer from any of the symptoms you just described?

Coach: You should immediately contact a development coach, someone who has no vested interest in your situation who can help you find your way through the mase that is overwhelming you.

personal-development-healingClient: How will a coach be able to help me? What will a coach be able to do that my boss or a colleague cannot do?

Coach: When you talk to your boss or a colleague at work you will feel hesitant about revealing all of your thoughts and feelings in case they take advantage of you. They won’t be able to help judging you and making mental notes about your performance.

A Development Coach is completely independent. Your discussions will be completely confidential. His or her only interest is in helping you. They will not (or should not) report back on anything that will affect your career or your position within your work organisation.

It is your coach’s job to help you get on top of your work and to enable you to feel good about yourself and what you are doing.

Client: What qualities should I look for in a coach?

Coach: You need someone who has been through the management mill, who understands and has coped well with the issues you face. Someone you feel comfortable with and you instinctively trust.

I suggest you read about the experiences that other clients have had when they have been coached by me.

I have worked for many corporations like GM, Dell, Yves St. Laurent and Reed Business Publications plus Government Departments like Defra and The Cabinet Office. When you click this link you will learn more about my work and about me.

    twisting-pathClient: How does coaching work?

Coach: First we would have a chat to see how we get on and to make sure that we are compatible. Then we would discuss the issues you are facing and prioritise which issues you need to sorted out first.

We would work on a one-to-one basis in private sessions. These sessions would take place once a week to start with at your place of work or over the phone, whichever is most convenient for you. At a later stage our sessions may become less frequent, say fortnightly.

Client: How long will it take before things change for me?

Coach: You will start to notice significant differences very soon, in the first two to three weeks. To actually change habits that you have developed over a lengthy period of time will probably take longer. Ask anyone who has given up smoking or lost any significant amount of weight. They will tell you that making important changes in your life takes time.

Client: What do I have to do to get started?

Coach: Simply click the Contact link at the top of the page and send me a message. I will then get back to you to arrange a time and day for a free initial consultation.

“I never cease to be amazed at the power of the coaching process to draw out the skills or talent that was previously hidden within an individual, and which invariably finds a way to solve a problem previously thought unsolvable.”
John Russell, Managing Director, Harley-Davidson Europe Ltd.
