Transformational Leaders Are Inspirational Writers
- Client: Why do you think that writing is so important?
Coach: Because it is a very effective means of communicating a leader’s charismatic vision to others in a way that will inspire.
Client: What do you write about?
Coach: I write almost exclusively about my vision of a county where transformational leadership techniques are used to energise people at work so that they can achieve their potential. In the past I have written about everything to do with changing the way that people behave in both their private and professional lives. My aim is always to help people achieve more than they think themselves capable of, so that they can make the most of their lives.
Client: Where do you write?
Coach: I write a lot on my blog and in various leadership and management publications. I aim to help people to learn and to better understand the benefits of transformational leadership and how I can help them. I am also currently engaged in writing a book about Transformational Leadership.
Client: Do you like writing?
Coach: Yes, I enjoy the creative process, by that I mean finding interesting ways to illustrate to my readers what might be beneficial for them to know.
Client: How do you decide what to write about?
Coach: On my blog the subjects tend to choose themselves. They just seem to appear to me when I am out walking my dogs or when I am coaching a client or when I am thinking about transformational leadership issues. The key is being focused all the time on the issues that people face, then there just doesn’t seem to be an end to the subjects you can write about.
Client: Do you think that your writing is important?
Coach: Yes, it’s very important. I don’t necessarily think that everything I write is original or that my answers are the best. But it is important for people to know that there are answers out there.
The other important aspect of writing is that I find it helps me to create ideas which, in turn, expand my thinking about transformational leadership. The more I write the more I think, and the more I think the more I understand.
Client: When will your new book be published?
Coach: I hope that it will be mid 2010. It is at an advanced stage and I am talking to a publisher right now.
Client: Do you think that writing would help me?
Coach: There is no doubt that it would. Lawrence Clark Powell said: “write to understand, speak to be heard, read to grow.” You will find that the writing process makes you think and the more you think the more you will understand about the subject you write about.
Writing also helps to spread the word about what you are doing. It helps to clarify instructions and to build an understanding of what you are trying to do. I am always looking for opportunities to write articles in newspapers, magazines and periodicals. I will write for any publication that reaches an audience that might benefit from my work.
All the best,
