NLP Modeling

The purpose of NLP modeling is to learn the behavioural programmes that excellent performers use and to replicate those programmes in others. This is a very simplified explanation of the process designed to serve as an introduction not as a tutorial of how to model others.

Modeling is the process of analysing and recording excellence. When we behave precisely as someone else does and achieve the results they achieve, we are modeling. The process of NLP modeling can be broken down into three basic steps:

  1. Find a subject who behaves excellently in the situation in which you want to achieve the excellence you are seeking to achieve.
  2. Identify what specifically they do, their behaviour patterns, eye movements, voice tone and non-verbal behaviour. What beliefs and values does their language demonstrate. What filters do they use.
  3. Try to reproduce the standard of behaviour you want to achieve to see how well you have modelled your subject. Did you use all of the elements in the correct sequence.

You will find that modeling works best at an unconscious level. When we don’t try too hard we often do better. That is the human condition.
